GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
The 600A Lap Joint Flange provides a flexible and practical connection solution for piping systems where easy alignment, simplified installation and convenient dismantling are important. Unlike conventional welded flanges, the Lap Joint Flange is used together with a welding ring or stub-end type connection, allowing the backing flange to remain free to rotate around the pipe connection.
One of the main advantages of the Lap Joint design is this rotational freedom. Because the flange itself is not rigidly fixed in one bolt-hole position, it can be rotated during installation to achieve fast and accurate alignment with the mating flange. This is particularly valuable in piping systems with multiple flanged connections, confined installation areas or situations where exact bolt-hole orientation cannot be predetermined.
The design can significantly simplify assembly, dismantling, inspection and maintenance operations. Once the welding ring or corresponding pipe-end component has been connected to the pipeline, the backing flange can be positioned independently, making it easier to match the bolt pattern of valves, pumps, fittings and other flanged equipment. This flexibility can help reduce installation time and avoid unnecessary rotation or repositioning of the pipework.
The 600A Lap Joint Flange can be supplied for use with both butt welding rings and flat welding rings, providing flexibility according to the required piping configuration and fabrication method. In each arrangement, the welding ring provides the connection to the pipe while the Lap Joint Flange acts as the bolted backing component that transfers the clamping force to the joint.
Another important benefit of this configuration is that, in many installations, the backing flange is not directly exposed to the process fluid. This makes the Lap Joint system especially attractive when corrosion-resistant or higher-grade materials are required on the wetted components, as the welding ring and flange can potentially be selected from different compatible materials according to the project specification. This can provide greater flexibility in material selection and help optimize the overall cost of the piping assembly.
Lap Joint Flanges are particularly suitable for industrial piping systems, process installations, water systems, chemical plants, maintenance-intensive networks and fabricated pipe assemblies where frequent alignment, inspection or dismantling may be required.
The 600A Lap Joint Flange range is available in sizes from approximately 1/2" up to 24", with nominal pressure ratings from PN2.5 bar up to PN40 bar, depending on the applicable standard, size, material and configuration.
As part of the 600A flange range, Lap Joint Flanges can be manufactured according to internationally recognized flange systems including GB, ASME, JIS and DIN standards, providing compatibility with a wide variety of international piping specifications.
A broad range of materials can also be supplied to meet different mechanical, temperature and corrosion-resistance requirements, including Q235, A105, 20#, 20G, 16Mn, Q245R, Q345R, S304, S304L, S316, S316L and other alloy materials, according to project requirements.
The combination of free flange rotation, easy bolt-hole alignment, simplified installation and dismantling, compatibility with butt welding or flat welding rings, flexible material selection and multiple international standards makes the 600A Lap Joint Flange a versatile and efficient solution for industrial piping systems.
Flanges can also be customized according to customer drawings and specific project requirements, including dimensions, material, pressure rating, drilling pattern, welding ring configuration and applicable standard.
